I’ve stopped and started this post six times.
For those who have known me a very, very long time…or have followed this blog from it’s inception- you know that I have been wanting a puppy for nearly 15 years.
St. Nicholas Hoots Toots McGee Vest has been with us nearly two months now, and I can finally resign myself to reality. I have a puppy. My kids have a puppy. Our family has a dog.
I can’t really put into words what this means.
Sure it’s tough. Puppies are hard. They chew things and nip and jump and need training. But they bring such love and fun to the house the bad is quickly outweighed with a cuddle.
And as I recovery from major surgery, the puppy has been a force of healing. Calming me, giving the kids something to focus on other than Mom’s belly. Even keeping my husband occupied with an occasional walk or lesson about how we don’t chew Wiimotes.
Yes. Our family is chaotic and complete. With a sweet little puppy named Nicky and a frantic Mom trying to stop him from tugging on a child’s dress.
Complete.
I’m crying, now, thanks. Dogs really do make a family whole, of course, that’s just, like, my opinion and all. We have Miss Jenna Bean, a Wheaten Terrier, and for three years she has been the daughter I never wanted.
Well you know how I feel! LOL! There is nothing like the love a dog. Congratulations on your new family member! Hope Nicky helps with a speedy recovery from your surgery.

TOTALLY! “From the dog’s point of view, his master is an elongated and abnormally cunning dog.” ~Mabel Louise Robinson
🙂 Happy puppy-ing!
Awww 🙂
Completely gnawable…I am a baby and puppy nibbler. Just so much goodness you have to softly nip an ear. Feels like home for everyone. Or I am just still loopy.
Happy day for you all.

Nicky is an adorable puppy. I see his picture and just want to snuggle him. Maybe one day I’ll have my own puppy. Maybe when the Captain isn’t around to tell me no.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Dogs are the best. Never thought I’d fall in love with a dog, but our cockapoo Cubbie Bear has stolen our hearts–even my husbands!
The times in my life when there hasn’t been a dog or three making things whole are few and far between. I’m glad your family is discovering how many more wonderful layers a dog adds to your life. They are truly special. You guys have a beautiful pup, he just vibrates joy.

You KNOW my opinion about dogs. I can’t imagine life without one. Especially the one I have. Congrats on being a dog family.

What a beautiful dog! what kind is he? I love his smile. I have 2 big fat Labs that are at the end of their lives….sadness overwhelms me to say that…and I want to get another one as soon as possible. to be without a dog is to be without a life, as far as Im concerned.
He’s beautiful!

Beth Nicky is a cockapoo 🙂
Congratulations on getting a dog. They make it possible to exist in the universe in a whole new way, with courage and grace even as they drive you nuts.
