Lyrics for PreSchoolers

“Mommy why can’t he have a screw?”

Turning down A/C in car to hear the 4-year old…

“What honey?”

“Why can’t he get a screw, that guy?”

“What guy?”

“The guy on the song. He needs a screw. And he can’t find one.”

…thinking…thinking…listening closer to music on radio..day after day…I get angry…and I will say…OH.MY.GOD.

“So the guy singing the song???? You think he needs a screw???”

“Yeah. That’s what he said. I’m sure Daddy can get him a screw out of his tool box. Then we can give it to him and he will have a screw.”

“Suuuuurrre. We can do that…”

“OH WAIT! Its ok Mommy-he FOUND it!”

“Oh…did he?”

“Yes, he found the screw in his PANTS!”

“Good for him.”

“Why would he keep a screw in his pants? Now THAT is JUST HILARIOUS Mommy!”

Sigh

Been there, heard that… and it gets worse. Wait until they’re somewhere with a lot of people and they start singing a song they shouldnt be singing.

My stab in the dark is; ‘Why Don’t we Get Drunk and Screw’ by Jimmy Buffett.

I have no idea what song that was either. I didn’t realize I was so clueless about music!

I have no idea what song that is, but I’m laughing my ass off over that conversation.

I am too…and worse…listen to the lyrics of Nickelback or Red Hot Chili Peppers. Not many are appropriate for kids! I have been listening to Pepper (have you heard of them? I love them!) lately and those lyrics aren’t so good for kids either. Luckily, all my kids except my youngest know not to repeat any of the lyrics.

uuhhhh…as a parental tip - how did you explain the rest of the song? The part where he becomes less subtle about what he wants…

“No really - I’m sure you heard wrong…he’s asking why can’t he get just one DUCK!”

OH COME ON PEOPLE, you seriously don’t know what that song is?! ADD IT UP! I knew what Waffles was talking about before you even wrote down the lyrics. LOL! Good thing Rob is thinking ahead for you… giggle.

Um, I knew the song the minute I read him asking about why the guy needed a screw.

Then I started humming it.

You aren’t the only one that listens to Violent Femmes….
