Celebrate Good Times, COME ON!

by Queen of Spain on June 4, 2008 · 20 comments

Years ago, my grandfather used to take about two dozen of us grand-kids to Boblo Island.

When you arrive, via party boat with dance floor and DJ, the awkward guy in a bear costume would dance haphazardly to Kool & the Gang’s Celebration.

As entirely cheesy and insane as that scene may sound-it’s happy memories for me.

This past week has been insane happy memories.

My daughter fronted her first band (she’s the tiny one with her back turned to you, singing)

Senator Barack Obama claimed the democratic nomination.

Senator Hillary Clinton announced plans to suspend her campaign.

The Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup.

…and despite coming home from a family trip to Kansas with one kid blowing her nose and the other covered in a rash due to the hotel water park, I am in a good mood.

It’s time to come together…..

Let me be the first to say congrats, missy.:) A well-fought victory on ALL counts. May the next year bring even bigger victories that you can celebrate. :)

Sorry for the double post, but this is so sad:
“In 1990 the old carousel, whose figures were made by famous carousel maker Marcus Illions, was auctioned off. In 1991 the boats ceased their 81 year run to and from the island and the park closed in 1993. The rides were sold to amusement parks in Colorado, Texas and Maryland. The Island is now a private residential community.” – http://boblosteamers.com/island.html

OMG Boblo! Fun times! Here’s some more Detroit memories for you, Faygo Red Pop (I found a bottle in Montrose a couple of years back), Better Made Potato chips (BBQ of course) and Velvet Peanut Butter (May it RIP).

i had to come out of lurk-dom to be so excited that someone else went to boblo island. i loved it when my grandmother took me there – it was the highlight of each summer! all i remember is the boat, though, not much else…but the boat…ah, i loved that ride.

things do seem to be looking up, don’t they?

The song was very cute. But why do you have the poor kids locked in a cell?

Yay on Obama, and I am happy for you with the Redwings. I don’t follow sports, though.

I’ll celebrate the first two, but not the Red Wings. Chicago gal here. woo!
