I’m not sure if you’ve been paying attention lately, but traditional media seems to be a few steps behind social media.
They can’t break news as fast as Twitter. They can’t seem to get hot topics discussed as fast as blogs. And they can’t seem to get a hold of the one demo kicking their asses in politics-
The Moms.
I’m capitalizing that now. The Moms.

Today is Wednesday February 27th and we’ve got media outlets all over the US, large pundits on networks echoing my call for unity in the party before this gets ugly(er).
Seriously, I’m TWO WEEKS ahead of you. Two weeks. TWWWWOOOO WEEEEEKKKKSSS. (you can just imagine me saying that like the paper delivery boy in Better Off Dead)

Twitter debate and election result nights. I can count about 50 moms just off the top of my head glued to MSNBC or CNN or Fox and discussing it in real time on twitter. So why is that a big deal? Because they can school you on policy. They can school you on strategy. I’d also pit them against any of your high paid analysts any day of the week. Chris Matthews would run crying.

You know, when I read that Jonathan Alter piece in Newsweek, I thought, “Feh, Queen of Spain said this weeks ago…where were you, fella?” I’d say they are way behind the curve.

Barren or breeding we all tend to get written off. I was just going to put women, but wanted to drive the point home a bit-as it seems those of us who are either making chalk drawings on the sidewalk or worrying about this year’s hem line tend to not be taken to seriously.
I rah rah women a lot. Today I just picked the Moms.
Thank you for picking the Moms! And that’s not to take away from non-moms or aunts or dads or any other human-type-person. Thank you for acknowledging that we have brains, words, and power to create change. Just as much as anyone else.

seriously. my twitter friends are feeding me info/commentary WAY ahead of the traditional media curve. everything from in-person meetings with candidates to cutting edge analysis. dinosaurs take note.
i want to have kids so i can be a cool mommyblogger, too.

The irony is that anyone would ever think that Moms are less than interested – we’re talking about the future of our CHILDREN’S country here, thanks… And if anything, that’s a number one priority for a mom – making sure that things will be good for our progeny.

You’re so right! Just the other day I commented to a friend that I did not subscribe to any RSS feeds. Why should I? It’s way faster for me to get information that really interests me by keeping Twitter up (and MSN, Yahoo, etc.). My close friends — my “moms and aunts connection” — will feed me quickly and efficiently with the important, relevant news to me. So instead of ploughing through 200 or so RSS feeds, and reading them all to see if they might have anything relevant there, I rely on the “moms and aunts connection” instead. They rarely fail.
Oooooh, snap! Erin, you totally called it long before MSM. I disagreed with you when you called for Clinton to step down, thinking she could still pull it off (and there’s still the tiniest of chances). But what I didn’t count on was for her campaign to go low and super-negative, instead of refining her own message. Sad to say, it just confirms my suspicion that she’s the “more of the same” candidate in spite of those brass ovaries she’s got.
But moms who Twitter–I gotta get me a piece of this action. Cuz clearly the hand that rocks the PDA, rocks the world.
